Hey
For all u that wish to get rid of few anoying stuff here is few tweaks that will make your life easier There is bounch of progys out on net to do that but u have to install them and they only lag pc's more , so here are tweaks that use windows itself and as result they don't take any unnecesery memory and stuff-all tweaks are tested and i'm using them for years now- just note- u play with registry here so if u mean to use them follow instruction literaly
SET THIS TWEAKS- u can set all or only ones u wish to have-AND RESTART PC AFTER U DONE ALL U WISH TO DO =)
SHUTDOWN PC TIME:
Windows xp has the service shutdown time set to 20000 ms which equals 20 secs (no wonder it takes so long).
Go to start and click 'run' and type 'regedit' and change the key :
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\WaitToKillServiceTimeout
I set mine to 0 ms and now i shutdown way fast. Experiment with the settings.
KILLS ALL PROGRAMS INSTANTLY ONCE U PRESS 'TURN OF (pc)'
Don't you hate it when, while trying to shut down, you get message boxes telling you that a program is still running? Making it so that Windows automatically kills applications running in a snap. Simply navigate to the
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
directory in the Registry, then alter the key AutoEndTasks to the value 1.
Note: the key 'AutoEndTasks' might not exist. If not, simply create it with a value of 1. To disable the AutoEndTask feature, simply change the value back to 0.
TIME DELAY BETWEN MENUS (simular to firefox tweak i post some time ago)
Another minor and easy tweak to remove any delay from menus sliding out. For this you will need to use regedit (open regedit by going to Start -> Run..., then typing 'regedit' and pressing enter). The key you need to change is located in
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
The actual key is called MenuShowDelay - all you have to do is change the value to 0. Remember, you will have to re-boot your computer for this tweak to take effect.
INTERNET BANDWIGHT IMPROVE:
A nice little tweak for XP-Pro/2000 only. M*crosoft reserve 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes (suspect for updates and interrogating your machine etc..)
Here's how to get it back:
Click Start-->Run-->type "gpedit.msc" without the "
This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:
Local Computer Policy-->Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Network-->QOS Packet Scheduler-->Limit Reservable
Bandwidth
Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab :
"By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."
So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO.
This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%.
SPEEDING UP SHARE VIEWING (for ppl that have more pc's on local network):
Basically, when you connect thru lan to another computer with Windows XP, it checks for any Scheduled tasks on that computer - a fairly useless task, but one that can add up to 30 seconds of waiting on the other end - not good! Fortunately, it's fairly easy to disable this process. First, navigate to
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace
in the Registry. Below that, there should be a key called {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}. Just delete this.
NOW RESTART PC NOW FOR CHANGES TO TAKE PLACE!
