Apparently master list is down for ever as support for rtcw ceased. Perhaps they meant the original test servers "host servers" not the idsoftware.com master ? which i am sure keeps getting info string attacked. if so .... RTCW will be dead ! i read also on splash damage one guy is hosting his own master.net but requires server to change the wolfmp.exe / wolfmp.ded and clients need to tweak their game also plus add line set sv_master3 "master0.etmaster.net" to server cfg ie, might as well just use a custom version of qtracker be easier , maybe try a force server ip to favorites. problem is only a few players will do this and is doomed to failure ultimately as newcomers will never see anything on their maste list it requires the same web address on alternate master as the original oh well see if it comes back on in mean time Rich

Link: z15.invisionfree.com/rtcwforum/index.php?showtopic=417It's not hard for them to shut down any master game server they want...only rtcw has queried wolfmaster.idsoftware.com so they simply shut down their subdomain (wolfmaster) and master server is dead for rtcw...quake uses different address as well as other games etc.. I already suggested few days before alternative et server was putted up to do the same with rtcw but I also stated I will not be going into it - wasting time and effort as well as money for no reason...as same rules as on et apply for rtcw...ppl would need binary etc...only way I would go into it is if there's a community behind me as well as involved into whole project. Here's an initial post I posted about it, read rest on the link provided... Little long but read it if you want as it address all the issues as well as solutions..
Link to whole conversation: z15.invisionfree.com/rtcwforum/index.php?showtopic=423To underline it...there's no chance in hell I'm saving rtcw on my own...major pub community would need to be willing to play along with us from both worlds (1.4 and 1.0) and chip in with keeping up master list as well as be willing to redirect their users to 1.4 (goes for 1.0) and open servers (wipe pb bans that are based upon serials..) as well as inform all players playing on their servers to update and upgrade and explain why. Entry point would be a same domain that would host master server in subdomain (master: rtcwmaster.somedomain.com - forum/website: somedomain.com) on which we could also code a website that would give serials upon registration thus code engine to report back any cheaters (caught by PB or any other alternative cheating engine etc..) to website and monitor faktards easier etc... There's lots that would need to be done. I could do everything on my own but I wont neither wouldn't be willing to do it. Either is a team effort on all fronts or there's an end to rtcw and we can all enjoy the ride while it lasts. P.S. I have software for master server already as well as all the tools to start playing with it...but don't have the time neither as i said, the will to play mother Teresa for rtcw ppl..

Well, I'm currently asking around who would be interested into forking whole rtcw into a project and/or offer resources (webservers, coding support..). If there's any interest, we may alternatively fork whole rtcw in a project and rebuild community. But firstly and primary, let's see if there's any interest. Would you be interest into it Richard? There's a lot of grounds to cover so resources would be scattered to "balance the load" and not put everything on one mans shoulders. If so, I'll forward you details in pm if there's any interest from others as well.

I've fooled around with it a little and set up a test master server. Ones that wish can try and use it. Owners: Just drop or modify this line in your server config: seta sv_master2 "82.192.42.115"For players, read the README in zipped file... Please note 3 things: 1st: This is just an experiment...I may turn it down at any given time...but it's going to be on probably at least for a month so we can see how willing is the community to adjust...on top of that, it's hosted on internal server with crappy connection but should be able to handle it... 2nd: Only servers of which owners will point their game servers to new master list, will be listed..other servers will still be invisible and accessible only by direct connection /connect IP or any other external program etc... 3rd and final: This is my good will so don't push it...if there are any bugs feel free to report it in pm or here or whatever...but don't scream or demand stuff or you'll get kicked in the nuts. P.S. It should work for 1.0 and 1.4 as binaries are patched for both...linux 1.1 will may be patched if there's an actual need. Link: www.gamefront.com/files/21221818/Ma...ver+-+patch.rarP.S. Feel free to spread the word... First servers are already on. 1.0: i41.tinypic.com/2nqelco.jpgAnd there's shrub one on 1.4 from fietser also

Well done LO maybe we could get ync hosting to put up a master it is in their interest to keep renting out servers. the bandwith would be low usage ? or for a mimimal charge etc. but a unversal master needs to be found and everyone agree otherwise there could be several offshoots ( which is not always a bad thing ) once this can be established then 1.0 and 1.4 pre configured games could be put together etc. cheers Rich

We can use quake3 darkplaces master list that's be on since years. I don't think it would be a problem. So atm we're currently discussing with various people from 1.0 as well as 1.4 what should we do next. Probably darkplaces will be new master list server since q3 ppl use it for years. It still leaves couple of issues tho. How to deal with new comers - as there wont be any as well as how to redistribute binaries once it's decided where master server should be. Personally I'm leaning (in my mind) towards idea to simply push engine to 62 protocol/version and create a fork of official rtcw and simply go from there on. The way I see it, people wont be able to play on a lot of servers as most will die out so it's pretty much the same if they switch to new version where development can continue etc..

Hi, i am a retired ET modder and more or less found this thread by accident so i hope im not to badly misplaced here Out of curiousity: Are you thinking about just forking the engine or also about creating a freely distributable content pack so a standalone installer would be possible?

I cant use my server must run executable version 1.1c lal This are not binaries for server..only for client. Server only needs to redirect to a temporary master by adding sv_master2 "82.192.42.115" to server config. etplayerFor start I would just fork it - increase protocol and add a thing or two that's essential to keep things moving, later on I was thinking to move to standalone..reason I wouldn't do that right away is cause there's simply to much to be done - creating art and assets etc...so first agenda would basically be to add fast downloads / fix serials so they are database (website) depended (1st steep towards standalone version) and rewrite upgrades so we don't encounter another 1.0 versus 1.4 situation all over again...update would simply force users to update in order to play..thus centralize all on one spot. Idea for upgrade is cause eventually graphic may get updated etc...so it's good to have a hook that makes sure everyone is on the same page. I must stress out tho, my idea is to primary work on engine and keep game experience in tact...rtcw is fine as it is (besides few missing functions like fast downloads and few bugs etc..) it only needs to get updated graphically wise as well as hardware wise (VOIP, surround sound support and stuff like that...). I would leave game logic intact - maybe just add essentials that are missing now like admin system etc.. and leave the rest to modding community....at side i would probably work on a mod but not in streamline etc...only mod that may be incorporated into main deployment would be extraction of OSP from ET and ported to RTCW if community would actually be willing to switch or basically, if any1 would be even playing it.. To sum it up, basic idea is to keep rtcw is it and simply make it a standalone with rewritten art and assets due license and make it open for public so new blood arrives..

Yes, assets is sadly where the heap of work lies. I had to discover the same thing when i thought about doing something similar for ET. I still have a bunch of textures lying around i think (not the best but i am a programmer not a gfx guy sry ). The hardest thing to get will be animated player and weapon models in my opinion. Engine wise alot of the modernization stuff is allready out there in engines like ioq3 and "just" has to be ported. I agree gameplay shouldnt be touched. I personally wouldnt mind a bit of an UI makeover but i cant really talk about RTCWs UI as its been to long since i last played it and purists would always dislike it no matter what i guess. Anyways, a standalone RTCW is really tempting. I dont have that much time at the moment but id be interested to help if theres a chance to make it happen
