I was bored today and felt that strange itch to switch php for c editor. So I spent few hours and tried to tweak released rtcw engine a little, to see if I could get it to work on 1.0. And with few tweaks it's quite possible. Here's the 1.41b rtcw source code on 1.0. But of course some work would still need to be done. But it is possible and from a first glimp, it doesn't require so much tweaking I thought. In fact engines seems quite similar. Must say, I only encounter error while playing with 1.4 version on 1.0, but when I tested 1.0 on 1.4 local server, it didn't produce any errors, although I didn't really thoroughly tested it. With few tweaks, it could open whole sea of possibilities. Upgraded render, ability to switch between versions, up to date support for new cpu's, ported code from other sources - VOIP, surround sound support etc... Anyway, I just posted in case if there's any coder still around that has the time and the will to fool with it, may give this a try if (s)he wishes.

No it's not but it's in ioquake3 open sourced engine which is based on quake3 and it's quite similar.

I think everybody should go to 1.4 including s4ndmod with it's dropreload. Probably they can do a better job of it then. And why not, servers there can be keyfree like in 1.0.
