I must admit i always name a few classic movies amongst my line up of fav all time movies. ( its nice to watch them now and again .... depending on mood of course ! )
my first nomination is the 1957 movie "Paths of glory" director = Stanley Kubrick
not sure how this film comes over to others in europe , but a very powerful film of all time. about the bleakness of war , and hypocrisy of battle.
although this film received NO Academy Award nominations. !

From the same director i can nominate "full metal jacket" (1987) which is one of my favourite movies of all time... Also the more recent movies made by Christopher Nolan were not bad in my opinion: Insomnia, Memento and The prestige. Also i'd like to add in my line up, Crash and Slevin. (of course i don't know if the titles are the same in your country, or if i posted the original ones)

yes "Full metal Jacket" i liked the training instructor in that movie , think that was his real life job ? amazingly a lot of the movie was filmed in the UK ! with an abandoned Gasworks by thames in London used as the destroyed town of Hue. and cliff marshes in kent , scene used as they marched along the dusty road with tanks rolling past and refugees going the other way . ( they just put a few palm trees to make it look a bit sub tropic looking !) Private Joker was asked if he had seen any action . by animal mother. his reply " yes , i have seen a little ...... on tv ! and poor old Private Pile ! "if GOD wanted him up there he would of gave him wings" although several other Vietnam anti war movies of the time were released , this film did capture the crazy stupidity of the campaign and the complete waste of lives . as private joker ( Matthew Modine ) said in the movie the Dead know only one thing .... it is better to be alive

This is my rifle.
There are many like it, but this one is MINE.
My rifle is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life.
My rifle without me is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. ;D

My favourite movie is "The Sting" with Robert Redford, Robert Shaw and Paul Newman. I never grow tired of watching it. It's about a young con man named Johnny Hooker who, together with his friend Luther, cons a man of alot of money not knowing that the money actually belongs to the big time crime boss Doyle Lonnegan. Lonnegans men kill Luther and Johnny Hooker wants revenge. Therefore he teams up with old time con man legend Henry Gondorff to set up a big con against Lonnegan. A complicated scheme to make Lonnegan lose something he loves - money. Unfortunatelly there are other things involved. Hitmen out after Hooker (since he stole money from Lonnegan) and a cop who's also after Hooker. This is a brilliant movie. It's 36 years old but is still way better than most of the modern movies. Beside having a great script and a really interesting story it also has some darn good actors. Robert Redford, Robert Shaw and Paul Newman are all great. It won 7 Oscars and deserved them all (maybe should have had more even). Damn, writing this makes me wanna watch it again. Might see it tonight P.S. You can watch it here apparently: www.movshare.net/video/75t5d47sv9rzv#
