hi before we go any further , i guess that with the new hard drive ,windows has been installed ( XP ?) and you normally connect direct into the router from your net/lan card ( not wireless ) i dont think wireless is ideal for online fps games .but a lot use it , so each to their own. now normally the drivers should all be on the motherboard (cd /dvd /drivers disk) ie, that came with the motherboard ( pc when you first aquired it etc , ,ie, sound , lan , usb , etc ) although most drivers should be available on the internet. if you have the boards details its easier. try the realek homepage for drivers ( avoid getting any of those driver doctors type programs , and some dodgy driver sites ) another option is to get a stand alone netcard designed more for gaming! than standard pc use. for example : www.advancetec.co.uk/acatalog/Killernic_K1_KillerNIC.htmlalthough i would be interested for feedback ,if there is any real advantage over a standard netcard ? as a side note ( as it says it bypasses windows to speed up , as i must admit on a pc i use which was formally windows xp and is now ubuntu linux , i get 25 fps more out of it than before and its the same pc ! , i aways thought it was the way it rendered the graphics ,but now i guess its windows that must be the issue after all. ) cheers Rich

it seems that the modem (netgear dm111p) has just problems with vista LOL. before reinstalling i didn't have such problems! as long as the modem/router is powered up it should be connected to the net. ( as you dont need to install anything on the pc for that , just connect on web browers http://192.168.0.1 ( then unit login and password ) then you can check the status of the unit .. but i still think the lan netcard is the problem. go into the Control panel , add hardware wizard and see if the LAN has a yellow ? question mark. if it is a DELL pc go to their homepage and they should have all the drivers there etc Rich

Well Richard said to don't use any driver doctor programm, but i personally use similar programm called Uniblue Driverscanner and it has been really big help, even when reinstalling windows, it search for drivers and then out of date drivers you can download and install. Altought i tried to install it to vista, it didn't :S
Well i reommand windows 7 over windows vista for sure! No it dosen't take more ram then vista.

Seems that it is okay now
Somebody should lock up websites like pornhub or xvideos, so you will get no problems anymore
