Hello! A simple question, which should be easy for the more tech-savvy amongst you: Will my obtaining a wireless router or wireless router/modem adversely affect my ping (I will be playing about 2 metres away from where the wireless device will be located). Many thanks, ^ Wi lk owilkinsonswords.blogspot.com

Not really- my experience with it was- i had ping the same and had the distance of 15 m (3 walls) Hi, That's excellent news (apart from the dropped connections ) - I was mainly worried that it would introduce added latency. Thanks, ^ Wi lk owilkinsonswords.blogspot.com

I have the same problem that the connection drops from time to time. I also have 2 laptops which are connected over wireless and the connection drops to diffrent times so I suspect the problems are the WLAN-sticks
edit/ and no problems with ping

hey i don't think it will be effected. i got wireless too and my pc is about 5 or 6 meters away from the router...and a wall is between... my average ping on avp servers is about 40-55 (maybe 60) 40 if it's a good day 50 to 55 average and 60 if it's a bad day

For the record, I run Linux on my wireless router.. None of my pc's network disconnects. (DD-WRT on linksys WRT54GS)
If somebody is copying files through the wireless network (or other heavy network usage), you might experience lag because all wireless clients share the same bandwidth.
Radio waves travel at light speed btw =)

Hey, just dropping my 2 cents before catching the bus WLAN won't affect your ping, but depending on the quality of the router/modem and the receiver you will suffer some packetloss. You can compensate by increasing cl_maxpackets to 80 or 100 if your connection can take it, and setting timenudge to -10 or -20 respectively. -tubie
